Behind the Scenes at 5Star Awards

5Star Awards, Inc. is our family business. Our commitment is to quality and customer service. With every job our goal is to delight our customers, and generate repeat business, as well as referrals. We are a home-based business in Cary, North Carolina. Four years ago we made the move out of the retail location with the ridiculous overhead and started running the business from our home, where we are able to be more flexible and able to work with corporate world demands and timing. The 9-5 retail store scenario didn’t dovetail with the needs of our business clientele and their many times unpredictable schedules, so by eliminating the rigid timelines and unnecessary overhead expenses we were able to change our business plan to accommodate those needs. There is no room in our business for the "You need it when?!" mentality. Instead, we take the customer's schedule and just make it happen.

Lisa Higginbotham
Lisa brings to the table a 17-year background in high-end commercial printing, and now 9+ years in the awards business. In printing, Lisa was a customer rep and account manager, handling every phase of the print process, and her area of expertise was color. Over the course of her print career, Lisa approved color and monitored color adjustments for clients from RJ Reynolds to Duke University, Kodak, Glaxo Wellcome and more. Parlaying this experience into the color sublimation arena in her own awards business was totally God's hand guiding the way. Constantly searching for advancements in the awards industry and ways to distinguish her company from other similar businesses, Lisa found that sublimation tied in her color expertise with her design and recognition skills. However, riding the changes in the industry and changes in both dyes and equipment, she only recently decided the time was right to move into the high end tile market, after much experimentation, and several layers of evaluation to ensure that the process and the equipment had progressed to a consistent and repeatable level of quality. Lisa is personally responsible for all the design, engraving, and color sublimation offered by 5Star Awards.

Jeff Higginbotham
Jeff handles the production, shipping and fulfillment end of the business. He brings to the table 10+ years experience as a customer service rep for several companies including Lipton and Lowes, and his own perfectionist tendencies both of which are an ideal tie-in for this business, where “our goal is to give ALL customers the 5Star treatment." Jeff joined 5Star full time in 2007 and has made valuable contributions to the business.

Partnerships
5Star has created a program to work with frame shops, decorators, designers and builders to sell this product, in addition to the direct retail market. We have wholesale programs for gift shops and galleries, as well as tile stores.

The Artists
5Star is in the process of working out details with various artists and photographers in order to offer our customers a wide range of image choices for the tile product. "What we have found is that a customer loves the tile and wants it in their home, but oftentimes does not have an image they can use, say for the backsplash in their kitchen. With our artist partnerships we will be able to provide those images and a wide range of choices!" 5Star is open to licensing arrangements with other artists and photographers – our goal is to offer a range of styles and products so we might make this process available to any customer or color scheme, personal and professional.
